What is the Zentangle Method?
It is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. We call these patterns, tangles. You create tangles with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, S-curves and orbs. These simple shapes are the "Elemental Strokes" in all Zentangle art.
Zentangle art is non-representational and unplanned so you can focus on each stroke and not worry about the result. There is no up or down to Zentangle art. In fact, you can most easily create Zentangle art by rotating your tile as you tangle -- always keeping your hand in a relaxed position. You don't need to know what a tangle is going to look like to draw it. You just need to know the steps. The result is a delightful surprise.
As you use the Zentangle Method to create beautiful images, you likely will enjoy increased focus, creativity, self-confidence and an increased sense well-being. Miriam is a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) by the Founders of Zentangle, Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas.
What are Expressive Arts?
It is the practice of using the visual arts/imagery, dance/movement, music/sound, drama/poetry or storytelling/theatre arts together, in an integrated way, to foster human growth, development, and healing. It is about reclaiming our innate capacity as human beings for creative expression of our individual and collective human experience in artistic form.
Using two or more disciplines of this art form allows individuals to explore an arts palette to play and grow a life of self-care and living fully while having fun in community and creativity. It allows a reconnection to self through creativity in all facets of one’s life, home, play and work.
Expressive Arts have been around throughout human history as a spiritual and community gathering practice. My ancestors painted and wrote in caves, created eco-art, made pottery, dyed yarn to make textiles, played with and danced to hand-made instruments to create, express, and explore. This practice brings the human-connection back to art instead of thinking of it as just a product.
Miriam has certificates in both Level I and Level II Intermodal Expressive Arts from Expressive Arts Florida Institute (EAFI) and is currently in the process of obtaining REACE – Registered Expressive Arts Consultant/Educator - from IEATA – the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association.
